Tamil cinema lyricist Kabilan words about NGK

Tamil Lyricist Kabilan voiced his support for the down trodden through his words Thee pandham eduthu theendamai kozhuthu , in the song for the Tamil film
Pokkiri.
Lyricist Kabilan
Now in the latest Tamil film NGk he has again condemned the social atrocities against intercaste love marriages with his song  Oorum Cheriyum Innngey Onnaa illaye..
Nammmma naatule kadhal seidhal
Vettturaan Nadu rotule..

Beginning with the song Unn Samayal araiyil..and
Ennodu nee irunthaal..he has written quite a few romantic songs to register himself as a leading Tamil Lyricist. Not only his romantic songs even his self awareness, socially awakening and revolutionary songs are brilliant.

He is ever on the move writing songs for films like Kaapaan ,Psycho , Jail and Pon Manickavel for many leading Tamil film directors.
Currently he has written two songs for The film 99songs composed and produced by A.R.Rehman.

Here are the excepts from his interview with us..

You seemed to jell well and bond with Tamil film music directors A.R.Rehman and Harris Jayaraj. What's the secret of the chemistry between you and the two composers

Both of them are very creative and they always think out of the box. They innovate and bring new genres in terms of singing , fresh and new singers too.So they have to think differently and to match their standards I have to keep abreast with them neck to neck.

So for Tamil music director ARRehman he had written quite a few songs commencing with
I jumped very high and the sky hit me..till his latest Tamil film 99songs.

From Kannum Kannum Nokia he has travelled a very great longv way with music director Harris Jayaraj till his latest Tamil film Kaapaan..

I have really jelled well with both of them.

You had been to Ilayarajas 75 th birthday celebrations..Many poets had come to honour him..what's his take on current day lyricists

The making of a song with Maestro calls for great team effort. He rejects outright politics ,
Social abuse and all eveil issues from his songs. He composes music for a song in no time . Just like that. Every song with him is akin to delivering a baby and that too the first child.

Tamil songs in the last two years aren't that popular as it was once upon a time
Why

3 movies are being released every week.
Before a song of a movie released in a theatre reaches the music lovers through radio and Television next set of movies too are ready for release. During these testing period many of my best songs could not reach the masses .

The cause for such a situation is neither me nor the music director. The real culprit is the continuous release of movies , one chasing out the other from the theaters. Now that the release of the film's has marginally come down the popularity of the songs may go up. So more and more songs are likely to become super hits in the near future.

How do you see the success of the song Thandalkaran in the movie NGK

There are plenty of evidences for the word Thandalkaran in Tamil literature. Those who went about collecting money for themselves with a stick are all referred too as Thandalkarans. All those who have a stick in their hands can not become Thandalkarans goes a very popular Tamil saying. In Thirukural and purananooru you can see the word Thandalkaran being used profusely. Those who collected taxes too were termed as Thandalkarans by Tamil scholar Devaneya Paavaanar.

So the word Thandalkaran has many meanings and can be interpreted in so many different ways like to give, to take, or to collect .As I had to write a song on Political leaders and Government officials in the film NGK I had to use e word Thandalkaran. Since I had learnt Tamil and make a living out of Tamil I too am a Thandalkaran.

In the present day pattimandrams many reputed speakers hail yesteryear greats Kannadasan and Pattukottai and condemn the current lyricists vehemently . What's your take on this

The days of Aaa SAA Gynasambandam , Ki Vaa Jha, Thirukural Munusami and Kundrakudi Adigalaar were the golden days for Pattimandrams. Those speakers of International repute set high standards referring to literature , philosophies, values and ethics often. Without listening to contemporary songs todays speakers blindly attack the current lyricists.
Playing to the gallery , making the audience laugh and becoming popular seems to be the only objective of today's Pattimandrams speakers. They make sarcastic remarks on wives, henpepcked husbands, teachers, students and woman sparing none.
Here I wish to refer some very good songs not merely because they were written by me..In my songs from Vettaikaran , pokkiri and many films till my latest Thandal..

I have clearly depicted the sad state of the oppressed and the woman which were never appreciated by these so called popular speakers.
They speak merely to seek cheap publicity and popularity unnecessarily criticizing the present day lyricists without listening to their songs at all.
