Director Selvaraghavan overview about NGK |
Question _ Is NGK a real life story?
Selvaraghavan _ No. not at all. Its the story of an ordinary man who enters politics and the developments thereafter. My perceptions have been visually captured in NGK
Que_ Will the recent political developments be a part of the film too?Selva _ Reality is the hall mark of any good film. But you wont see hundred percent of it.
Q - Tamil actor Surya is a top hero .. Have you created scenes specially to please his fans?
A - Surya is a great actor and a very good human being. The travel with him during the film was memorable. He has put untiring efforts for this film. If this film has seen the light of the day its because of him.
Q - Surya says that you are a great actor and that you enact every scene so well..Then why did you not take to acting?
A- No reason as such.Like poet Bharat has said that his profession is poetry. My profession is Directing films. I have never wanted to become an actor.
Q- Once the script is finalized do you change it often?
A - We can't straight away film the script immediately once its ready. There could be some more developments and sub branches off the main story line. It has to be revealed gradually like a weather report. Like taking an umnrella along with you if it happens to rain , we must have add ons to the script too. I believe that most of what happens in life takes this course only.
Q - Can you explain your style of writing the screen play?
A - There is no hard and fast rule as such. But I do a lot of research- for every character as to how it would think, behave in every situation.I love and enjoy doing research. only then I will start writing. Writing screenplay is a different art. If I start talking about it in detail it will take several hours.
Q - Do you tell your actors not to come with any preconceived notion to the sets and to come with an open mind like a blank page without reading any pages of the script?
A - If the actors come with a certain mindset they may not be able to bring out in live what the director had in his mind while conceptualizing the script and creating the character. So I ask them not to read the script before they act. If they come with an open mind we can mold them the way we want them to be.A film is always team work and not merely the solo efforts of the director alone.
Q - The inordinate delay in the release of the film Nenjam marapadhillai..and the film Mannavan Vanthanaadi _ is yet to be completed still..How do you wriggle out of such hard situations
A - Its really very sad. Like the sun rises daily we must be on our toes every day removing the darkness and bring in a ray of hope and everlasting energy..
Q - In the film Pudupettai Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi was a junior artiste standing behind the Tamil actor Dhanush as one of the four men Today he has blossomed into a super actor. How did you see it ?
A - I never thought of all those things then. The film, the plot, the characters, the actors were foremost in my mind. I never thought of Vijay Sethupathi or his future. Now I am very happy that he has emerged as a top actor.Surely you can see him in my film soon.
Q - when will you commence Airathil oruvan-2?
A - I take life as it comes only. This film calls for severe toil and meticulous planning..We shall discuss it at the appropriate time.
Q - Which do you think is your best film?
A - None .I see more flaws in my films than the positives.
Q - will you venture into web series?
A - Yes sure. That's where the future lies.
Q - As you say the future lies in web series then will the habit of going to theaters for watching movies come down drastically?
A - No. never. People had the same apprehension when cable TV made its appearance. The same fear continued when DVD entered the market. But both did not create much of an impact? You cannot get that same feel when we watch a movie in a jam packed theater with hundreds of people while we watch a film online.Old habits die hard. So that habit of watching movies will always remain intact. Theaters and movies have come here to stay and not to disappear.

A - That's a top secret. It cannot be revealed to any one.
